Friday STEM day!
Everyone in Room 2 was super excited to create their own catapults today.

First we talked about the process we use when attempting a project. We then drew out our plans for what our catapults might look like and what materials we would be using.

We started picking our supplies.

I was so proud to see all our friends in room 2 give it a go at creating the catapult. The rubber bands were pretty trick, but everyone tried hard to use them on their own.

We took our catapults outside and did some tests to see who could send the ping pong ball the farthest.

Room 2 had a great time creating their own catapults. We all gave ideas about why some catapults sent things farther than others. Koby connected this STEM project to our straw rockets a few weeks ago. He said "Mrs. Church if we blew into the straws hard  the rockets went  farther and the more we pull down on the catapult the farther the thing goes." Some friends also said it depended on what we used in the catapult. This was a great learning opportunity for us and created some great conversations. I have told the kids to come up with their own catapult at home this weekend if they have time. Hopefully you can take some pictures or bring it in on Monday if you make one together.
