Just a heads up sorry its coming out late. We will be having our last day of small sticks tomorrow. It will be a tournament format. Room 2 kids will be split onto different teams. Room 2 groups are set to start playing at 10:20 and will go until 11:10. Stop by and watch what we have been learning in our small sticks classes.

Friday STEM day!!!
We created hoop gliders Friday in class for our STEM activity. I love seeing how excited Room 2 is for these activities and how creative they are becoming with their ideas. This activity involved science and engineering.

We always start with a plan. The students are becoming very good at sketching out their designs and writing down a plan.

We watched a you tube clip with a demonstration on how to create a hoop glider. Then the class had a go at creating their own. We used straws, card, and cella tape. I really encouraged them this week to create this all on their own with no help from Mrs. Church. The cella tape created a big challenge, but I am super proud of them for giving it their all.

I was very proud of Olivia's resilience. She ended up having to make two gliders. Her first attempt she accidentally taped the straw closed. I asked her if she thought that was a problem. She said the air wouldn't be able to get through. She said "i'll just make another one". I have really noticed  that through these STEM activities the kids are realising it's ok to fail the first time and it is not anything to be upset about.

We gave our hoop gliders a go!
We had four trials to see whose glider would fly the farthest.

 Juno's glider was the winner!
When we came back in the classroom we brainstormed some ways we thought we could make our gliders better or change them.
Hugo and Thomas decided to add some things to their gliders. I wonder if they would still fly?
I can't wait to see what we get up to in STEM next Friday!

We are learning to use a number line to count back to find the solutions to subtraction problems.

First we filled in the missing numbers on the number lines.

We can hop back on the big number line to find the answer.

We used the dinosaurs to move back on the table number line.
After practicing our number line strategies we did a subtraction scavenger hunt.

I loved seeing Hugo use the jumping back strategy on the big number line to find his answers.

Isla used the jumping back on the number line strategy as well.
Paige used the dinosaur to count back on the number line.
